The Knitting Nannas Against Gas and Greed (KNAG) support Rising Tide’s demand for the immediate end to new coal projects and the end of coal exports from the world’s biggest coal port by 2030. We are already in Code Red for Climate Change and we need to do everything in our power to achieve Net Zero by 2030. The coal exported through the Newcastle coal port is equivalent to nearly 1% of the world’s global emissions, and the emissions from burning fossil fuels directly contribute to rising sea levels – this cannot be allowed to continue, and urgent action must be taken. Nannas from over 7 loops, including Hunter, Central Coast, Gloucester, Sydney, Illawarra, MidCoast and Canberra, are participating in the People’s Blockade over the weekend, and have the support of all Nannas who are unable to be there in person.
The Knitting Nannas is a disorganisation committed to protecting the environment for future generations. Originating in the Northern Rivers region of NSW in 2012 in opposition to Metgasco’s proposed Coal Seam Gas Project, it has grown to encompass approaching 40 Loops across Australia and 6 overseas. The Knitting Nannas are not affiliated with any political party – we annoy all politicians equally!
